CERTIFICATED IEP WORKSHOP SERIES

SpEducational’s Certificated IEP Workshop Series offers a deep dive into family led advocacy for students with disabilities in public schools. They are designed to inform, empower, inspire and promote community, laying a strong foundation for individual advocacy and for collective action.

Specifically, the workshops provide clear and actionable steps on the following topics: knowing and accessing the rights of families and their students with disabilities, developing a strong IEP, monitoring the child’s progress, ensuring IEP compliance, understanding special education governance and funding (local to federal) and exploring the intersectionality of ableism, racism, socio economic status and language barriers. Each workshop session is two (2) hours long and presented in Spanish & English over the course of several weeks. Parents will receive a certificate upon completion of the full workshop series.

SpEducational has delivered workshops to hundreds of families through its collaborations with Special Needs Network, Disability Voices United, Alianza de Hombres (Integrative Community Collective), Bay Ed Fund, the Special Education Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Long Beach Unified School District, the Spina Bifida Association and Un Paso Más. The workshops are developed and led by SpEducational’s Founder and CEO, Lisa Mosko Barros, an award winning bi lingual advocate for students with disabilities with over 13 years of both professional and personal experience.
