Real Impact

We are building a family led movement at the intersection of disability rights and public education.

Did you know that over 80% of students with disabilities can achieve at grade level* and 100% can do so much more when provided with appropriate supports? Yet in California today, only 15% students with disabilities are performing at grade level. Enabling students with exceptional needs to reach their full potential transforms lives and dramatically narrows the achievement gap, yet families of kids with exceptional needs struggle to access the information they need to effectively advocate for their children. BIPOC families are the most impacted, struggling with a triple blow of ableism, racism and in many cases, significant language barriers. We can do better. Starting now.

EQUITY FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES CAN NARROW THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP

REAL IMPACT

In the very short time since SpEducational’s founding, we’ve made real impact:

100,000+ families will benefit from the passage of SB 445, an IEP translation bill authored by CA Senator Portantino and championed by SpEducational in coalition with Disability Rights, CA and Innovate Public Schools.**

•200+ families directly served through free IEP workshops and advocacy trainings.

20+ partnerships with non-profits serving students with disabilities and BIPOC students in underserved communities. We’ve partnered with dozens of non-profits to offer free IEP advocacy trainings in Spanish and English across the state and to champion the safe passage of SB 445.

**SB 445’s recent passing into law ensures that forthcoming statewide IEP template will be translated into the top 10 most commonly spoken languages across the state.
