VISION
SpEducational envisions a public school system in which students with disabilities are provided all they need to fulfill their greatest potential and where parents and students are fully integrated as key partners in improving access to a high quality education.
Our kids with disabilities' futures depend on equitable access to a high quality education that is individualized to their specific needs and learning profiles. Although the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (I.D.E.A. - a federal law) guarantees students with disabilities individualized supports, services and protection, so many schools and districts fall short on this promise. The vast majority of families don’t have the information they need to effectively advocate for their kids.
MISSION
SpEducational’s mission is to empower and mobilize families of students with disabilities as advocates to ensure equitable access to high quality education for all.
Through workshops, community forums, social media and an ever expanding network of newly informed and empowered special education parents, SpEducational will work to improve access to high quality education for students of all abilities. SpEducational will also organize parents to collectively advocate and demand positive change around key systemic issues that impact millions of kids at the local, state and national level.
“Parents have become so convinced that educators know what is best for their children that they forget that they themselves are really the experts.”
— Marian Wright Edelman, Founder of Children’s Defense Fund
