SB 445 was signed into law on Sept 28, 2024 by Governor Newsom, signaling a victory for non-English speaking families of students with disabilities.

SB 445 was passed thanks to the tireless efforts of SpEducational in partnership with the bill’s co-sponsors, Disability Rights CA and Innovate Public Schools and in coalition with Special Needs Network, Educate.Advocate, GO Public Schools, Visión y Compromiso and several other organizations across the state. With the passing of this bill, the forthcoming statewide IEP template under development by the California Collaborative for Excellence in Education will be translated into the top 10 most commonly spoken languages across the state. We look forward to continuing the campaign to ensure full and timely translation of IEPs for all.
